Mgt 311 Learning Team Reflection Week 4

Organizational Development Team D Learning Team Reflection December 3, 2012 This week we learned about the influence of how organizational structure is on behavior. Also we learned how to analyze and influence an organizational culture on behavior. Then there is how power and politics influence people’s behavior. We talked about mechanistic structure and organic structure. When talking about mechanistic structure, the employees know how to present themselves, why there is no room for them to mess up. (Robbins & Judge, 2011).When people are at work they have to act one way compared to the way they act at home. If the business does not put into place a strong organizational culture, then there could be a lot of unethical behavior in the place of business. This would show the people that work at the place of business and the customers that there is a low organizational structure. All work places of some kind of influence of power and politics. Without the right kind of power and politics in the place of business this could cause discord for people that work in the business. If this kind of behavior is not watched it could cause other people in the business to feel left out or not appreciated in the right way. In week four we took a look at power and leadership, here we contrasted the two. Power is the influence someone has over another person and leadership uses power to attain goals. It is important that one does not have to be a leader to have power. Many people have the power to coerce others without having the leadership role. We could relate to formal power and compare it to the workplace. We use the different formal powers; coercive, reward, and legitimate powers every day. When our employees fail to comply with company goals they can get written up which could result in termination. We also use rewards for employees who exceed goals. Exhibit 13-2 in chapter 13 was very humorous; it gave political labels and compared it to effective management. For exam ple, the political label ‘passing the buck' is known as ‘delegating authority' for effective management. The things we learned that made us think more was about virtual organizations. Some of us did not know what the full term meant and now we can say that the company one of us works for is one of the utsourcing companies from a virtual organization. Some of the leading companies have the profit that they do because of the flexibility and low overhead. Organizational behavior is here for the people to have a better understanding of the people they work with. The more that we know our surroundings and the people that work in the place we are able to know how to influence the individual or group. This will help each person to feel a part of the team and in return the business will run better because the people working there will not mind doing the work.

Book Report on “Babouk”

Guy Endore tells the story of the drastic slave history through the eyes of an African – Babouk. He starts by focusing on the cargo of a French slaver during the late years of the eighteenth century. He explores the characteristics of a slave trade through his presentation of the ship and its primary quest. As the ship gets loaded with captured slave at Goree, readers are provided with the concept of how lowly did the early Americans view the African Negroes. The way in which they were â€Å"loaded† to the ship makes the thought of slavery dreadfully equated to the scene of hoarding tools and equipment that will soon be used to gain profits. In general, what makes the story terribly disturbing is the way by which one race maltreats the other because of their difference in color, race, and cultural structures. This was shown when the slaves were stricken with opthalmia during their long, tiring, and devastatingly miserable trip towards San Domingo.During the voyage to the enslaved land, those who failed to meet and satisfy the standards of â€Å"slave eligibility† because of the disabilities that they developed (such as the loss of the sense of sight) were disposed in an inhuman way- being thrown overboard to drown and die. As the slaves reach their unfortunate destination of lifelong enslavement, the story becomes much worse as the once free men take their roles as full-pledged slaves under the rule of â€Å"masters† who treat them disdainfully and without any sign of gratitude and appreciation. However, the drastic enslavement also brings about a positive effect on the part of the Haitians. The slavery drives them to fight. The pain of being treated appallingly and the feeling of being taken away from their home and families eventually evolved into an urge to fight and defend themselves. The slavery of their white fellows transformed them into revolutionaries which eventually became as harsh as they were. Unfortunately, the supposed e nlightenment of the slaves ended in their tragic death. Apathy yields indifference In the story of Babouk, readers were provided with a glimpse of how dreadful early Americans treated their potential slaves. In the story, they showed no signs of remorse in what they were doing. They failed to recognize that Africans like Babouk had the same rights and privileges that they enjoyed. They equated their potential slaves in the same way that they treat beasts of burden and tools for trade and profit. They showed no apathy and acted as if the indifference was a normal part of life and living. In effect, they instilled hatred in the heart of their slaves and they promoted the idea that a human being may treat their fellows in an inhuman way, for as long as they can delineate differences in their race and culture. They showed that violence was normal part of societal interaction and that â€Å"survival of the fittest† exists not only in the jungle. In response to this elaborate show of apathy, they harvested nothing but indifference from their revolutionist slaves. The most disturbing demonstration of this sadistic harvest is when Babouk threw a white child on the ground, struck a pike into its innocent and defenseless body, and used it as a banner. The History of Islamic Education in Turkish Society

With the end of World War II the strains that had been created by the transformation of Turkey under Ataturk erupted into the open. The political elite splintered into various factions and new elements that had risen to the fore in the twenties and thirties; businessmen, traders, and entrepreneurs.Began to articulate insistent demands for a greater voice in decision-making. In their drive for more power the new groups quickly gained the support of many elements within the society who, dissatisfied with the rigidity of the CHP and the bureaucracy in general, and with the wartime economic problems in particular, wished to see a greater degree of freedom within the country. In this atmosphere ideological attitudes ranging from racialism to communism were openly expressed and fundamental political issues became topics of popular debate. This debate culminated in a dramatic change in the political system that could now be characterized as competitive, a change that in turn engendered marked repercussions in every aspect of Turkish life. For many reasons; including Inà ¶nà ¼'s dedication to Ataturk's ideal of establishing a multiparty system, internal opposition within the CHP, and demands to end one-party rule; opposition politics were legalized in 1946. In 1950 the DP (Democrat Party), formed by four former CHP leaders, was swept into power by an overwhelming majority. This election marked a turning point in the country's history. Not only had a remarkable transition from dictatorship to democracy taken place, but the new government promptly embarked upon an ambitious program of economic development that would have significant consequences for Turkish society in general and the educational system in particular (Szyliowicz, 1966).What had happened was that the first free elections in Turkish history allowed all segments of society to voice their dissatisfaction with the CHP which had been in power for twenty-seven long years; intellectuals wanted democracy, businessme n resented the etatist economic policy, landowners were disturbed by the attempts; however unsuccessful; to induce change in rural areas, and the peasantry, whose way of life (as we have noted) had changed but little, felt neglected and abused by a tyrannical administration.Secure in its mandate, the DP attempted to carry out its campaign promises, launching an ambitious program of economic development financed in large part with American aid, and liberalizing various restrictive laws.Furthermore, the DP was aware of the importance of rural support and did its utmost to maintain the favor of the villagers by a partial relaxation of religious restrictions; the call to prayer could once again be chanted in Arabic and religious instruction became a regular school subject unless the parents requested that their children be excused.

Economic Demography (Term project Assignment) Term Paper

Economic Demography ( project Assignment) - Term Paper Example Also it examines the limitations that may arrive due to considering only education as the factor of the wage inequality. Furthermore, it takes into account the other factors that may result in the different wages of people. In this paper I would try to establish the fact that education is a determinant of wage inequalities. For the purpose of my research I’ve collected a data set which has pre tax wages and salary. Against this data set I’ve taken a data set that records the highest grade attended by the individuals. These two data sets are taken specifically to test my hypothesis correctly. For the purpose of the analysis I have also used many literature reviews. The data set that has been used for the education records the highest grade of the individual. This data set has been designed in such a way that it captures the number of years of education for the individuals. The range is from 0 years spent in education to 8 years spent after college in education. Further, it shows that on average in the US, people drop out of the college after their second years. The data set that used for the purpose of the analysis of the income is the personal wage and monthly income of all the individuals in the United States. The range for this data set is not specified which means that it applies to all individual cases. From the data sets that were used, the interesting deduction that one can make is that the correlation of the wage or the salary income and the highest grade attended by the individuals is very high that is -0.8 for 18,447,324 individual cases. (IPUMS samples) The standard errors that have been recorded here are approximately equal to zero which means that the T-static value is 0.00. This ensures that the coefficient of the correlation is statistically significant no matter what confidence level is taken. This is because the null hypothesis (the correlation coefficient equals zero) can be rejected at all levels of

Grammatical Features of Definiteness - Essay Example Secondly, numbers which occur in plural and singular. Lastly, the gender Category, They usually take values such as the masculine, feminine and the neuter (Smith, Teschner and Evans, 1994). Frequently grammatical categories are usually misunderstood with lexical categories. This Are nearly the same as parts of speech like the nouns, verbs and the adjectives. Categories may be brought about and referred to according to meanings they portray. For example the category of tense(s) usually show time in which activities took place for example, did a certain action occur in the present (now), past (a time before) or future (a time to come). They may be structured in words by use of inflection (a change in the number of words a word that reflects a change in grammatical function, Oxford Dictionary.) In the English grammar, the number noun is always leaving the noun without inflicting it, this is if it’s singular. For words which are in plural, the suffix-s is added. This not the case w ith all plurals, because some nouns have irregular plurals. On the other hand, a category may not be marked on the item to which it pertains. They are shown only through other features in grammar of a sentence. Always they are shown through agreements in grammar. A good example to illustrate the above point would be: The number of nouns may not be marked on the noun itself if the noun does not inflect as in the regular pattern. Instead they are shown in the agreement between the noun and the verb. Singular nouns usually use ‘is’ while plural nouns take are. For example: In this case the noun sheep does not inflect according to regular patterns. In other cases the number can be reflected both in the noun and also by the agreement of the verb (Smith, Teschner and Evans, 1994). For example; However, where a number of nouns or verbs are not manifested anywhere in the surface form of a sentence.

Health Care Delivery in the US Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Health Care Delivery in the US - Essay Example Think of a machine whose parts are working together and running smoothly and efficiently. This is how health care delivery in the United States should be. Ludwig von Bertalanffy's Systems Theory shows there is more than just one part involved in the process. It takes all the parts involved to make the machine work properly. Getting these parts to fit, however, can be a challenge. Unfortunately, the uninsured does not always have access to good quality medical care, and/or services. Lack of education, when it comes to paperwork, multiple physicians, and understanding exactly what the disease and its treatment process becomes extremely confusing leading to errors and unneeded care. health care has had to go through many tests before being incorporated in the industry. Testing and proving the benefits of such programs, such as HomeMed or EHR, depends entirely on the ones doing the testing. If it is perceived by health consumers to provide benefits and has real time advantages, it will be accepted, if not it will be rejected. The incorporation of technology, and the acceptance of the internet, has seen many organizations implementing telemedicine. This will lead to more efficient care and access to remote areas.Conducting cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on a dummy leaves a lot to the imagination. The true sense of performing this life saving technique is lost. Roger's Diffusion of Innovation theory deals with the idea of accepting a new way of doing things. In today's health care setting, with many new

Depositions - Essay Example Through evaluation of witness, conflicting testimonies can be compared with each other where the most credible testimony can be determined. Also, through evaluation of testimony, the extent of a testimony’s usefulness can be determined by the court such making relevant only those where the witness has practical experience and direct knowledge of the event that is material to the court. Through evaluation, the court can disregard second hand information or hearsays which are not material in the litigation of a case. This method of evaluation of witness and his or her testimony is not perfect but it is the best that has been tried so far. Establishing the credibility of the witness enables the court to know if the witness is truthful. Second, the testimony of the witness is cross examined and only limited to those that are relevant to the case removing all second hand information, hearsay or opinion which will defeat the impartiality of the
